Network publishes new report on First/Second Generation Immigrants by Jens Schneider (Ad Hoc Question)

Network has published a short report in the form of an ad hoc question by Jens Schneider. The author provides a brief summary of the history and geographical use of the terms “first/second generation immigrants”. The terms are widely used in the social sciences, however, they are operationalised differently – partly due to the availability of data, partly based on different theoretical assumptions about the underlying needs for distinction (which also have created the less widely used term “1.5 generation”).  Given the diversity of the use of these terms, this report provides a thorough insight on how they are used in the academic literature.
